Lemon Laws for Chrysler Vehicles
Chrysler is a popular automaker in the United States. However, despite its popularity, it's vehicles can exhibit defects. Lemon laws are designed to protect consumers who purchase defective vehicles, and both Michigan and Ohio have consumer protection laws in place to hold manufacturers accountable when they fail to provide a functional or safe vehicle. Michigan and Ohio state lemon law applies to any new Chrysler vehicle, including, but not limited to:
Chrysler Pacifica
Chrysler 300
Chrysler Voyager
Chrysler Sebring
Chrysler Town & Country
Chrysler Aspen
Chrysler PT Cruiser
Chrysler Crossfire
If you’ve bought or leased a new Chrysler with significant defects affecting its use, safety, or value—and these issues remain unresolved after reasonable repair attempts—you may be eligible for relief under your state’s lemon law.
Common Chrysler Defects Covered by Lemon Laws
Any significant defect that cannot be fixed after reasonable attempts may qualify under state lemon law. Some (but certainly not all) common issues that may call into question whether your Chrysler is a lemon include the following.
Engine problems: A malfunctioning engine can lead to decreased performance, stalling, or complete breakdown, making the vehicle unsafe or undrivable.
Transmission issues: Transmission failure, jerking, slipping, or delayed engagement can significantly impair the functionality and safe operation of your Chrysler.
Electrical system failures: Electrical system problems, such as faulty wiring, failing infotainment systems, or nonfunctional power windows and locks, can cause safety concerns or inconvenience.
Brake malfunctions: Defective brake systems can lead to longer stopping distances or decreased braking power, putting you and others on the road at risk.
Steering issues: Steering problems, including loss of power steering or difficulty maintaining control of the vehicle, pose a serious hazard.
Regardless of the issue, a new vehicle that exhibits unresolved defects after a reasonable number of repair attempts will often qualify as a lemon. If you are experiencing issues with a new Chrysler, contact an experienced attorney who can review the details of your situation and determine whether you qualify for relief under Michigan or Ohio lemon law.

Michigan and Ohio lemon laws provides protection for consumers who purchase or lease a new vehicle used primarily for personal, family, or household use. A vehicle is typically considered a "lemon" if it has a substantial defect or condition that impairs its use, value, or safety. To qualify as a lemon, generally, the car must:
Have a significant defect that is covered by the warranty that occurred within a specific period or after a number of miles traveled.
Have a substantial defect that hasn't been fixed after a reasonable number of repair attempts.
Have spent 30 days or more at the dealership for repairs within the first year of purchase.
If you live in Ohio, additional provisions apply when determining if your vehicle is a lemon. These provisions include:
Eight or more repairs in an effort to fix various problems; or
One attempt to repair a defect that was likely to cause death or serious injury.
To qualify as a lemon in Michigan, your vehicle must have been brought to the manufacturer or authorized dealer for repairs at least four times for the same issue or must have been out of service for 30 or more days within the first year of purchase. Ohio’s lemon law covers new motor vehicles that experience one or more substantial defects within the first year or the first 18,000 miles, whichever comes first. If your situation is close, but falls a little outside the requirements, please call us to discuss, as each case requires thorough review.
Potential Remedies for Chrysler Lemon Law Claims
If your Chrysler qualifies as a lemon, you will likely be eligible for a remedy under Michigan or Ohio lemon law. In these cases, there are typically two remedies available: a full refund or a replacement vehicle. The best option will largely depend on your specific preferences and the available options from the manufacturer.
Full refund: The manufacturer may offer you a complete refund for the purchase price of the vehicle, sales tax, registration fees, and even incidental costs such as towing and rental car expenses.
Vehicle replacement: The manufacturer may offer you a new, defect-free Chrysler vehicle or a comparable model if your preferred model is unavailable.
Under Michigan and Ohio lemon laws, manufacturers are also required to cover your legal fees, which means you can pursue legal action without worrying about attorney fees. It is important to act quickly when pursuing a claim, as time limits and warranty periods can affect your eligibility. Ronald S. Weiss can help you evaluate your options and choose the best course of action for your situation.
